World of Work

 

19+ pre-employment skills training for adults with learning disabilities

 

One day per week.

 

World of Work provides 3 different accredited levels of study for adults with learning disabilities, aged 19+ who wish to develop pre-employment skills or skills for working with others.

 

Learners will attend college one day a week and participate in a range of accessible and engaging activities such as drama, film, media, art and enterprise.

 

After an initial assessment learners will be offered a level of study that meets their individual needs either at Entry 1, Entry 2 or Entry 3.

Independence and/or pre-employment skills will be promoted through the completion of a range of engaging units and activities.
 

Course structure (example units and content): 

 

Certificate in Personal Progress E1
Part time - 1 year only
Understanding what money is used for:
Handling money in real life situations, safety with money, role-playing scenarios where money is spent.
Developing skills for the workplace:
Interviewing people in the workplace, working with others, making and selling a product. 
Developing Self Awareness:
Create communication passports, sharing likes and dislikes, through art based activities.
Health and Safety for the workplace:
Explore what health and safety means in the workplace.

 

Certificate in Personal and Social Development E2 
Part time - 1 year only

Managing your own money :
Safety with money, spending money and receiving change, explore bank accounts, using money in a real situation.

 

Healthy Living:
Exploring healthy activities, personal hygiene and presentation, group fitness and relaxation activities.
Preparation for Work:
Interview different people in employment, observe jobs in the workplace, role-play scenarios.
Individual rights and responsibilities:
Social interactions, making choices and staying safe.

 

Certificate in Personal and Social Development E3 
Part-time - 1 year only
   
Working towards goals:
Setting goals and celebrating success. Recording progress using photography or IT.
Preparation for Work:
Exploring different job roles and activities, recognising skills and qualities, creating an accessible CV or record of achievements and dealing with problems.
Working as part of a group:
Enterprise activities, creating products and selling them. Group work activities.
Individual rights and responsibilities:
Identify right and responsibilities, investigate human rights and citizenship.
