GFW1 Northbrook College’s Fashion degree students have won a string of awards at this year’s prestigious Graduate Fashion Week at the Old Truman Brewery, London.


Fashion Media & Promotion student Hannah Byrne, 21 won the Barclays New Business Idea Award for her end of year project in which she created ‘The Fashion Platform’ – a website for fashion graduates with interviews, news and reviews.


Three Fashion, Media & Promotion students, Mica Willgrass, Iszara Morgan and Helena Lester-Card were highly commended in the film and zine categories for the Diversity Now 2014 award.


Other students from the BA (Hons) Fashion Media & Promotion and BA (Hons) Fashion Design courses were nominated for an array of awards, including the Ethical Award, Fashion Styling & Creative Direction and Fashion Photography.


Northbrook Fashion Design students also showed their degree collections on the catwalk at the Old Truman Brewery in front of thousands of visitors, including fashion industry experts.


Hannah Byrne, 21, who is from Northampton and moved to Worthing for her degree, said, “I was completely shocked. The fact that I won makes me feel that I can take this success further. I’m very proud of winning the award – it’s given me the confidence in my idea which I didn’t have before.”


Bianca Donnelly, Acting Course Leader BA (Hons) for Fashion Media & Promotion said, “Graduate Fashion Week 2014 has been the year where we have upped the ante. It's been fantastic for us to gain recognition on a national platform for the calibre of work produced by the BA (Hons) Fashion Media & Promotion course. We were pitched against fierce competition and are delighted to have won a number of awards. This is testament to the hard work of the team, technicians and the student work ethic at Northbrook College. We’ve gained excellent press coverage and the students are proud to come from an award-winning fashion department.”


Graduate Fashion Week is the world’s leading event for fashion graduates, showcasing the work of over 1,000 graduates from the most influential and inspiring UK and international universities.
