Northbrook Hair and Beauty students recently visited a Guild Care home to provide treatments to the residents.
Residents, who suffer with dementia, were treated to hand massages whilst talking with the students.
Students were trained by Guildcare prior to offering the session at Haviland House. Students gained confidence and started to put that training into practice, chatting as they delivered hand massages. Their soothing communication coupled with the all- important touch was appreciated by these ladies with dementia. Chloe Reynolds, one of the students who took part, said of the experience “the staff were really friendly and made me feel comfortable, it was really beneficial and gave me a good insight into industry and working in care homes".
The pampering event was delivered over two days and came about after Northbrook College successfully recruited for Haviland House, one of Guild Care’s homes. Northbrook and Guild Care have since worked together to support each other with events, recruitment and student development. Northbrook College and Guild Care have mutually benefited from work experience placements.
