marc dawson A Northbrook College apprentice is jubilant after winning a regional heat in SkillBuild – the UK’s largest multi-trade competition.

Marc Dawson, 29, a Level 2 Bricklaying apprentice from Worthing, who works at JSJ Construction in Brighton and studies at Northbrook, came first in his competition.

The regional heat, which took place at Barking & Dagenham College on 30th April, is one of 14 regional heats taking place around the UK. The highest scoring competitors will be given the opportunity to compete at the three day SkillBuild UK final, which will take place later this year.

On the day, Marc was given a diagram of a particular wall which he had to build. He was then judged on the thoroughness and aesthetic quality with which his wall was built.

Marc said, “I’m really happy to have got this far - I could definitely feel the pressure during the task. It was very technical but I loved the challenge of building something out of nothing. Hopefully I’ll hear back that I’ll be in the final.”
