Northbrook College students have excelled in a national Public Services competition, winning first and third place in separate events last weekend.
Northbrook’s NCFE Level 3 Uniformed Services students competed at the annual National Uniformed Public Services competition at Brooklands College Surrey, against 19 other colleges across the country including Oxford, Manchester and Durham.
The students won the Presentation Event, which involved presenting on the new immigration laws and their effects on Public Services. They also achieved third place in the field cookery event, making a tasty meal on a camp stove from lamb’s heart, liver, potato, onion and carrot – all in torrential rain.
Public Services Course Leader, Neil Cockcroft, said, “The experience gained by the students was invaluable, as all the events were hosted by serving Uniformed Services personnel including Fire & Rescue, the Police, RAF and Royal Marines. I don’t think they will forget the drill sergeant from the Grenadier Guards for quite some time!”
