A Northbrook construction student has won first place in The Guild of Bricklayers (Southern Region) inter-college competition, at Fareham College.
Level 1 Diploma in Bricklaying student Rhys Matthews won the Junior Section, beating seven other students from Colleges across the area including: Highbury College, Chichester College, and The Isle of Wight College.
The competition held in April, saw competitors working for five hours to complete a piece of feature brickwork. The Junior competitors had to produce an arch and were judged on speed, accuracy and overall appearance.
Rhys will now automatically gain entry into the National Finals at North Devon College in June.
Brickwork Tutor Mick Dicote, said, “We are very proud of Rhys and his achievements. The competition was tough and he produced some excellent work. I would like to thank the hosts Fareham College for their friendliness and hospitality; it was just a great day.”
The Guild of Bricklayers is a national organisation that aims to promote and maintain the highest standards of craftsmanship in brickwork.
