This course has been devised in response to industry and student-led demand for practical training in makeup and hairdressing techniques for theatre, film, TV, fashion, festival, carnival and entertainment arenas.
COURSE OVERVIEW
An introduction to the areas of hair makeup, media and beauty. This course also supports you in developing your self-esteem and includes careers guidance and skills such as how to apply for jobs and do well in an interview.
Studying beauty and hair makeup and media at Northbrook College is hands-on, exciting and will leave you with the skills, confidence and experience to progress to employment or further study. Training in our professional salons, you will develop your skills in customer service, communication and commerciality, preparing you for work in salons, hotels, airlines, cruise liners and department stores in the UK or overseas.

Start this Level 1 course if you have at least 2 GCSEs at grade 2 (F), preferably including English and maths.
You will be expected to present yourselves in a professional manner, be polite and courteous. You will attend college wearing a uniform, with your hair up, nails cut short and free from varnish, and strictly no jewellery or facial jewellery is allowed. You will be expected to be punctual and attend all classes. These are all requirements of the awarding body.
Upon successful completion of this level 1 course you can progress to one of Northbrook College Level 2 courses in beauty, hairdressing or barbering. You may wish to progress onto an apprenticeship programme.
You will be assessed throughout your course via practical activity observations, academic coursework and industry placements. Assessments are based around ‘real-life’ projects and industry or workplace scenarios including work experience.
