Northbrook College students showcase creative flair in charity showcase

20 March 2025

Our students hard at work creating their pieces for the charity window displayFashion and Textile Design students from Northbrook College recently worked with local charity Link to Hope to transform donated clothing into upcycled fashion pieces.

These vibrant pieces were put out on display at the Link to Hope shop in Worthing, and were designed in order to bring attention to the importance of sustainability in fashion.

Link to Hope is a Christian charity that aims to help people in need in countries, including Moldova, Romania, and Bulgaria, through education and social care.

The level 3 students were given 20 bags of clothes by the charity, which had been earmarked for landfill, and were tasked with transforming the clothing into fantastic fashion pieces.

They were given the freedom to choose what they designed, focusing on climate change and sustainability, with pieces including coats made from duvet covers, and waistcoats made from curtains.

Helena Thomas, Principal of Northbrook and Worthing College, said:
“We are proud to collaborate with Link to Hope and support their vital work in helping communities in need.

“It was an absolute joy to see our fashion & textiles students working with such a worthwhile charity, creating these visually stunning clothing items.

“Creating these unique fashion pieces out of discarded materials not only demonstrates their design skills, but also their commitment to sustainability.”
